93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Showing beautiful results in an excellent vintage, the 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a graceful and elegantly tempered red wine. It makes good on all the basic promises of traditional Sangiovese: the complexity and elegance of the grape and that fresh acidity. It opens to a mid-weight style, making this a perfect wine for roast chicken and roast potatoes. Pretty mineral notes appear on the close, and the tannin is beautifully integrated."

"Lively acidity and fine-grained tannins give a seamless structure to this wine’s high-toned red berry flavors. The blend (sangiovese with ten percent of colorino, canaiolo and ciliegiolo) reflects this estate’s emphasis on native Tuscan varieties, and vines of up to 40 years of age impart balance and concentration. A wine of classic elegance and restraint, it has the structure and freshness to improve over the next decade." *Best Buy*

"This is firmly placed in red-fruit territory with frozen strawberries, dried red cherries and fresh herbs. Round and juicy on the medium-to full-bodied palate and succulent on the finish."
Jancis Robinson
"Gaiole in Chianti. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino.
Lustrous mid ruby. Lifted cherry with minerally, saline notes and hints of crushed shells. Transparent, medium-bodied palate with fine yet gripping tannins. Fluid, sour-cherry fruit on the finish. Still embryonic, and with lots of potential. 17.5+/20 points. (WS)"
Karen McNeil - The Wine Bible
"Badia a Coltibuono ("Abbey of the Good Harvest") dates from the eleventh century and was founded by the Vallombrosan order of reformed Benedictine monks. In the mid-1800s, the estate was acquired by the Giuntini family and eventually was passed down to an heir Piero Stucchi Prinetti, who, with his family, set about transforming the estate into a superb modern property devoted to wine and food. (Lorenza de'Medici, the wife of the late Piero Stucchi Prinetti, and as close to a Renaissance woman as it gets, is a famous cookbook author and the founder of the estate's acclaimed cooking schoo.) The wines, of course, are the heart of the estate, and they are delicious - especially the Chianti Classico Riserva, with its autumnlike flavors of wood, mushrooms, withered leaves, wet bark, truffles, damp soil, and small wild berries. I have always loved the leathery grip of this wine, and the way it incites hunger for a richly sauced pasta."
Vinous Reverie Notes
Winery: The Badia a Coltibuono Riserva, our most classic wine, is made exclusively from autoctonous grapes. It is loved by wine aficionados worldwide and is considered to be a true emblem of the Chianti territory. Tasting Notes: Intense, deep ruby red color with subtle glimmers of garnet. The wine shows a splendid, full nose with hints of blackberries and pleasant notes of tobacco and spice. In the mouth, the wine is soft with an elegant, fresh finish and a persistent, generous acidity in the aftertaste. Full of mature tannins and fruitiness.
