“Bright and juicy with a wonderful energy; ripe red and dark forest fruit, a savoury palate with a refreshing fruity finish.”
“Most of the fruit is from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo with sandy loam soils. This is supplemented with some fruit from the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley. The soils are deep, which delays ripening and avoids water stress. Grapes from different vineyards were vinified separately before the final blend was assembled. After a double sorting process, the grapes were gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel-tanks between 24 and 28 °C for 10 days. The wine is then aged for a minimum of nine months in concrete vats.
Mid to deep crimson with some purple at the rim. Spicy and pure-fruited and even though the fruit is to the fore, it's not all about fruit as the fruit is complemented by a dusty darker side. On the palate, there's dark fruit such as blackberry and damson but not in the least jammy or overly sweet, just generous and well structured, opening up to a spicy fragrance, becoming more floral in the glass. Full-flavoured yet finishes dry and fresh with fine-boned tannins. 16.5/20 points. GV (JH)”
Vinous Reverie Notes
This vintage of the Malbec Clásico is fully representative of Altos Las Hormigas' style -- joyful and fresh. Displaying a bright ruby red color, this wine has a fruity nose of plums and raspberries complemented with herbal notes. The attack shows supple tannins with a balanced acidity that is the secret of the wine's freshness. Notes of crisp red fruits fill the mouth, with a soft texture and a long finish. This is a pleasant wine, ideal to pair with various dishes, from red meats to pasta or grilled vegetables.
